Health and Fitness

I’ve been dancing since I was three, so being into health and fitness was in my blood. After graduating college and not being on an organized dance team anymore I decided to start my personal fitness journey. I realized that if I stopped dancing and wasn’t being active, things would go down hill quickly. Luckily, my mom works at a gym so I get a free membership. Going to the gym after work really isn’t something I want to do (it’s a personal choice because all I want to do is go home), so I decided to start getting up at 4:30am and go before work every morning. It’s a hard habit to get into but I love it! It kick starts my morning and gives me energy for the day. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I take a spin class, Tuesdays and Thursdays I take a circuit class, and Saturday and Sunday I lift. There are some days I am very tired and skip, but most days I’m there (everyone needs a break now and then anyways).

People ask me how I go so early in the morning. All I can say is a ton of self control. To be up at 4:30am, I am in bed by 8:30pm. This isn’t normal for someone my age so it’s very hard when everyone is hanging out and I have to go home to go to bed (grandma status). This is something that makes me happy so the sacrifice is worth it to me.

Along with working out comes healthy eating. Ryan and I tend to eat very healthy when we make dinners at home. Recently, I’ve decided to not eat meat and I’m really enjoying it. This wasn’t a hard transition for me because when we cook, we usually make some type of vegetable dish. Ryan also makes a lot of homemade sauces with a variety of nuts (hint: using nutritional yeast makes things taste like cheese.. yummy). Check out the From the Garden page for recipe ideas.
